James C. Reed is the sole shareholder of James C. Reed, CPA,
CFP, P.C. located in Tucson, Arizona. The practice was established
in January, 1988 and specializes in tax planning and preparation
for individuals, business entities, trusts, and estates. In addition,
the firm offers additional services in the areas of small business
accounting, financial statement compilation, financial and business
consulting, payroll services, and personal financial
planning and management.
Jim’s philosophy regarding taxation emphasizes tax planning.
Tax planning allows individuals and business entities to take full
advantages of the complex tax laws to pay the lowest tax legally
possible. Most taxpayers hire CPAs just to prepare taxes on an annual
basis and do not get their money’s worth when it comes to
planning for tax savings. Planning require diligence and accurate
record keeping on the part of the taxpayer. Most organized taxpayers
can utilize tax planning services provided they have accurate records,
are willing to listen to and implement new ideas, and keep in communication
with their tax professional. Jim specializes in the small business
taxpayer and real estate investor, where planning opportunities
are numerous.
Jim began his career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company
in 1983. At the time, Peat Marwick was one of the “Big 8”
international accounting firms. This experience gave Jim an introduction
to a variety of industry’s complex tax and accounting situations.
In addition, Jim spent a short time working with a local CPA firm
in Tucson, which gave him valuable experience in both business and
individual taxation.
Jim attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona where
he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with
majors in accounting and finance. He is a Certified Public Accountant
and holds certificates in both Arizona and Wyoming. In addition,
the Certified Financial Planner designation was earned in January
1998. Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Jim is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast. He runs daily and has
completed several marathons, ultramarathon distance runs, and Ironman
distance triathlons. Other sports interests include alpine skiing,
cross country skiing, climbing, and hiking. Jim has served on the
board of directors of non-profit entities in the Tucson area and
has been a Little League Baseball coach for over ten years.
Jim is married to Pam Reed. Jim and Pam have five boys ranging
